Born in New London, Connecticut, she began her career meeting record producer Ryan Leslie in late 2004, who then signed her to NextSelection Lifestyle Group. Meanwhile, Diddy listened to "Me & U" at a club, and Leslie persuaded him to team up with his Bad Boy Records with Leslie's NextSelection imprint to release Cassie's debut album. Cassie's debut studio album, titled, was released in August 2006, reached number 4 on the Billboard 200, and entered the Billboard Hot 100 top 3 "Me & U". In 2008, Cassie released the single "Official Girl" with Lil Wayne. In 2009, she released the single "Must Be Love" with Diddy and "Let's Get Crazy" with Akon, and signed a recording contract with Interscope Records.
